This year’s Victory Day commemorated 70 years since the defeat of the Nazis, and in Latvia, several thousand Russians and Russian Latvians took to the streets to commemorate those who lost their lives. But the day also marked the start of the Soviet occupation in the Baltics and a dark chapter in Latvia’s history.
