Daniel Barenboim est connu pour être un musicien socialement engagé. « Music is the best means of escape from the problems of human existence », clame-t-il. En 2006 déjà, ce célèbre pianiste et chef d’orchestre était l’invité de BOZAR avec son West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, un ensemble qui réunit des musiciens israéliens et palestiniens. Cette fois, il donnera un concert de bienfaisance placé sous le signe de la guerre en Syrie. À travers un récital de Schubert, il souhaite contribuer à la Global Platform for Syrian Students, une initiative de l’ancien président portugais Jorge Sampaio. Cette organisation donne aux étudiants syriens qui ont fui les violences l’opportunité de poursuivre leurs études ailleurs dans le monde.
